The 9 tricks of a beauty editor to have the most beautiful skin
With the permission of the hair - I dream of good hair days - having beautiful skin is another of my great beauty obsessions. "If the hair is fine, everything is fine," says a friend of mine. I subscribe to her words and allow myself to replicate them in the field of skin. "If the skin is fine, everything is fine." Understand all this as hyperbole that is limited solely and exclusively to beauty issues. But when we talk about beauty, just as there are people who are obsessed with everything that has to do with abdominal fat, cellulite, or dark circles, in my case the efforts of my beauty routines focus on my hair and having good hair. expensive (that's why they scold me every time I go for a body treatment and detect my neglect with basic body care). I have a fairly refined manual - allow me the audacity - of the beauty tricks that really work for me to have beautiful skin. I have learned them all from someone - I mean dermatologists, makeup artists, facialists, or celebrities - and I repeat them methodically practically every day of my life.
#1. The towel trick
It all started when I read that Arabella Preston, Kate Middleton's make-up artist, told that the secret to having radiant and beautiful skin was to use a cotton towel soaked in water as the final step of facial cleansing because it deeply cleanses the skin and exerts a very light exfoliation. The trick in question was confirmed to me by Leticia C. Carrera, director of the Centro Felicidad Carrera, but with 3 notes that she strictly adheres to: the towel has to be made of cotton; the water must be lukewarm (if it is very hot it dilates the walls of the capillaries) and the towel must be washed after each use in the cotton program of the washing machine.
#2. The cleansing milk is removed like this
In one of my visits to Carmen Navarro, I discovered the reason for the bad moment that my skin was going through: I was using micellar water. This is not to say that micellar water is not a good idea, but in the case of sensitive and dehydrated skin like mine, it can wash away the oil from the skin itself. That is why they advised me something that, in my case, was the hand of a saint: remove my skin with cleansing milk. Since I was scared by the idea that using this cosmetic could add oil to my skin, Carmen told me to remove the milk with a moistened cotton towel, always ending the ritual with toner.
#3. Apply the cream with a small massage
I have to admit that I do not do it in the morning (due to lack of time) but at night I strictly comply with this trick and I notice the difference at the same time because the skin absorbs the cream and is slightly illuminated and uniform. Tom Pechux, who always does it to models before putting makeup on them, was right when he said: "I like doing it because it soothes the skin, smoothes fine lines, and restores radiance when you're tired." Although it can be done in many ways, I have simplified the technique and I do it with the gentle upward movements from the center of the face and outwards recommended by Ana Puelles Lostao. "These movements also favor the luminosity of the skin due to the collateral effect of oxygenation of the tissue", said the expert.
#4. Remove makeup with coconut oil once a week
When you're a beauty editor, coconut oil has to come in at some point in your life. At the end of the day, there are so many celebs who praise his goodness, that you end up experimenting with him at some point. It took me a long time to do it - specifically, I tried it for the first time a few months ago when a friend brought me organic coconut and pineapple oil from Punta Cana - and now I understand everything. I like to do like Emma Stone and I use it to remove make-up from my skin. I don't use it every day, but at least once a week I smear my skin well with it and wash it off with warm water.
#5. Blessed cold
Always, always, always, before makeup I invoke Paul Newman, Kate Moss and Vanessa Paradis –they did– and I pass an ice cube on my skin carefully so as not to make it red. Dermatologists confirm that cold stimulates the skin's blood microcirculation and that implies a more luminous, more toned skin with a smoothed pore. Other times, I also love to try the trick that a seasoned beauty journalist gave me a long time ago: get up, put on a gel mask previously chilled in the fridge, and crawl back into bed until the mask warms up. But of course, putting this trick into practice is not always easy (not easy).
# 6. Clay masks yes, aggressive peel-off masks and scrubs no
This reflection arises from two statements: the one made to me by the pharmacist Pedro Catalá, creator of the Twelve Beauty brand, who insisted on the importance of replacing a weekly exfoliation with purifying clay masks. "Exfoliation can be aggression for the skin. On the other hand, clay masks have a slightly exfoliating action", said the expert. And it also arises from the statement made to me by a dermatologist when we were talking about cleansing peel-off masks that can be aggressive for the skin (if the skin hurts when removed). "These masks only remove the most superficial layer so the pores will quickly fill with keratin and the blackheads will reappear," he said.
# 7. Do not handle the granites
This may be obvious, but as much as I have heard that granites should not be touched, many times I have succumbed to the temptation thinking that it was the best option because the granite in question was at its peak. And yes, I have ended up regretting afterward for the degree of inflammation and redness that I have reached. For this reason and because the dermatologist Lidia Maroñas stressed to me that touching any granite "causes inflammation and unwanted scars", I have learned not to touch them and to limit myself to using a drying product in the area. My favorites? Filmogel spots from Urgo and Tulsi Spot Remedy from Aster / Bay.
# 8. The treatment that works is the one that celebrities do before a red carpet
I am usually reluctant to facials that include machinery, simply due to the fact that I have extremely sensitive skin, but after trying radio frequency I understood why it is the treatment that celebs do before a red carpet (in fact, I Carmen Montalbán confirms that he is usually the one chosen by actresses like Blanca Suárez before a big event). And, as long as good hands do it, the result on the skin is immediate and improves with the days.
# 9. Sleep one more hour
I think practically all the models and actresses I have interviewed have finished their list of beauty tricks by saying that the best beauty trick is "be happy and sleep well. It may be too obvious, but I have absolutely proven that when I sleep one more hour - instead of the scarce 6 hours that I sleep daily, I mean to sleep the recommended minimum 7 - my skin is much much better (and my mood, too) . Isn't sleeping the best cream in the world?
